The PPO Threshold Dialogue Pilot was part funded by the Dorset Criminal Justice Board and run by Prison Dialogue between 2004 and 2007. It targeted PPOs and other high repeat offenders and worked with the full involvement of Probation and prison staff at HMP Dorset as well as Probation, Police, Drug Action Team members and others in Boscombe. The pilot showed significant success in engaging a critical short-term group of offenders and reducing the frequency and severity of their offending. The pilot received the DCJB Partnership Award in 2007 for bringing together the various criminal justice agencies so effectively. It was evaluated by the University of Coventry and the Completion Report to the DCJB encouraged taking this work forward with the inclusion of HMP Guys Marsh.
HMP Dorchester and Prison Dialogue submitted a joint proposal to the Dorset Criminal Justice Board to apply for funding of the PPO Pilot Threshold Dialogue on 17 September 2004 entitled: ‘Shaping decent and effective local prisons: whole-system resettlement-focused and community-linked interventions to turn prisons round so they become client-centred and outward-facing’.
The PPO Pilot Threshold Dialogue began with dialogues in HMP Dorchester in 2005, and then extended into the Community in Boscombe later that year. Reports on the prison dialogues will be posted shortly.
